The first sublevel in B2 (Advanced). In this course, students will continue to work on how to recount an event or a conversation through indirect discourse and passive structures, as well as additional ways to make comparisons, express themselves in the negative and speak about future events. They will also learn to develop more complex sentences in addition to exploring idiomatic expressions and word games.

The second sublevel in B2 (Advanced). In this course students will learn new ways to express feelings, goals, and regrets. They will focus on taking a stand and structuring their points of view by using expressions of cause and consequence, idiomatic expressions, and varying language registers.

Fall26 - At the table with French painters B1+ (FALL2)

Specialized French

This unique course combines French art, language, and gastronomy in an engaging cultural experience. Over four sessions, we'll explore the  culinary tastes of great French painters – Cézanne, Renoir, Monet, and Toulouse-Lautrec – through their favorite recipes, drawn from personal notebooks, correspondence, and cookbooks. Each session highlights one painter, an iconic artwork, a recipe, and themed vocabulary. This immersive course offers French language learners the opportunity to expand their vocabulary while exploring France's rich artistic and culinary heritage through hands-on cooking and cultural discovery.   

Session 1 – A Taste of Provence with Paul Cézanne 

  Discover Cézanne's favorite Provençal recipe: baked tomatoes. 

  → Vocabulary focus: spices, southern vegetables, cooking verbs  

Session 2 – Luncheon of the Boating Party with Auguste Renoir 

  Inspired by the famous painting created at Maison Fournaise, we'll prepare Renoir's herb chicken. 

  → Vocabulary focus: aromatic herbs, chicken parts, culinary expressions  

Session 3 – Dining with Claude Monet 

  Immerse yourself in the world of Giverny with strawberry mousse, a simple yet refined dessert.

Session 4 – Toulouse-Lautrec's Sweet Indulgence 

  Drawing inspiration from his book The Art of Cooking, we'll discover the rum tart, a bold dessert from this  epicurean painter.

This class is a film-centered language class, dedicated to building oral comprehension and communication skills. Through film, students will enhance their knowledge of spoken French of all levels—formal, standard, and informal—as well as their French cultural literacy. 
 
Award Winning Contemporary French Films are accessible to French learners by having dialogues that are not too complex and lengthy or having enough visual scenes to contextualize the language.  

In this class, we will begin with “The Artist” and “The Triplets of Belleville,” (Fall 1 & 2) two nearly silent films that highlight the power of visual storytelling and lend themselves well to visual analysis and thoughtful discussion. With minimal dialogue, they rely on imagery, movement, and music to convey emotion and narrative. We will also watch “Amélie” (Fall 3) a visually distinctive film known for its bold use of color, creative camera work, and unique cinematic style, making it a standout of modern French cinema.

Through authentic texts, videos, and reports, students will broaden their general and specialized vocabulary while mastering the grammatical structures necessary to denounce inequality and other social injustices, summarize a speech, and share personal experiences related to the themes. Students will also continue to master the different registers of language, both formal and informal, and practice analyzing artworks, songs, and poems.

Explore contemporary French society through authentic documents. This course will look at clothing, social and cultural debates, modern writings, and other aspects of French society, to learn about today's France. Good for developing oral and written comprehension and expression.   

This is Part 2 of the course. It is not necessary to have taken Part 1.

Students will also discuss topics related to science, societies, fauna and flora, and arts and culture, amongst others. Ideal for students who are getting ready for the C1 level, need further review and practice, or are preparing for the B2 DELF exam. 

Each week, a theme is explored through a reading and/or listening exercise appropriate to the level. Relevant vocabulary, pronunciation, and one or more grammar points at the B2+ level are reviewed based on support materials and put into practice through structured activities and a communicative approach. Throughout the course, students receive personalized and prompt feedback. Some written comprehension and production may be introduced in support of the targeted oral communication outcomes. 

What is the difference between Oral Skills Lab and Guided Conversation classes? While Guided Conversation classes offer a more organic format focused on spontaneous exchange, Oral Skills Lab classes follow a more structured curriculum, with dedicated grammar and vocabulary review incorporated into speaking practice, plus homework between sessions, ideal for students who want to build a strong foundation, track their progress, and move confidently toward the next level.

Are you curious about the historical development of sexual and gender identity categories? Interested in engaging with LGBTQIA+ studies from a critical, historical perspective? Would you also like to improve your French reading comprehension along the way?

Michel Foucault is one of the most influential French thinkers, whose texts and ideas help us understand how modern society has used sexuality as a sophisticated method of control. In this course, we will read and study together one of his best-known — and sometimes misunderstood — texts. By analyzing his History of Sexuality: The Will to Knowledge, we will discuss the shifting terrain of sexuality in the West, including the proliferation of sexual and gender identities we see today.

Summer26 - French Podcasts B2+ (SUM2)

Specialized French

In this course focused on oral expression and listening comprehension, students will listen to podcasts and speculate together on subjects worthy of greater debate. The instructor will guide a discussion of current events, including important moments that characterize the Anthropocene and its drifts. Students will also discuss topics related to science, societies, fauna and flora, and arts and culture, amongst others. These subjects will allow the class to reflect on and discuss the various stakes which constitute our current society. All course materials will be provided by the instructor 

Prerequisite: B2.3 or B2+ course, or B2.3/C1 result on the Level Assessment

Summer26 - Making Grammar Easy B1+/B2

Workshops

Conducted in an interactive and fun manner, this workshop will focus on helping you master the common difficulties of French grammar! 

This course can be taken more than once as content is adapted based on the students who have registered (returning students will study new material).  

Prerequisite: General French B1.3 course, B1 Review, or B2.1 result on the Level Assessment

Summer26 - Oral Communication and Grammar B2+ (SUM2)

Specialized French

This class is designed for students wishing to strengthen their vocabulary and grammar at the upper advanced level. Each week, through a study in areas such as politics and economics, literature and history, the arts, and many more, students will have the opportunity to practice and strengthen their linguistic skills in the language, review grammatical concepts, and develop their cultural understanding of France and the francophone world. No textbook required for this course. 

Prerequisite: B2.3 course completed or B2.3/C1 result on the Level Assessment

Intensive Courses
This intensive week is designed to strengthen major skills acquired during the B1 level in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

This class can help you to boost your French or simply to give you more confidence and enhance your knowledge before joining the B2 level.

• Prerequisite: B1.3 course completed, or B2.1 result at placement test. New students and students returning after more than three quarters are required to take a short online placement test.

• Next course: A specialized B1+ course or General French B2.1.
