Through practical examples and guided activities, you’ll explore the linguistic patterns that shape modern informal French, including casual speech, verlan, slang, texting shortcuts, and the highly creative parler jeune.

Starting with its history, we see how many different influences over time bring a somewhat cyclical nature to governmental events and bring us into the present. In arts and language, we will see how the DRC's music scene is known throughout Africa and around the world, and how language defines interactions as French is used in schools and government, and personal communications are held in either Lingala, Swahili, Kikongo, and/or Tshiluba. Lastly, we will see how the lands' abundance of natural resources and unique biodiversity impacts their economic growth.  

During this workshop, we will travel through this true earthly paradise, enriching your vocabulary with words and expressions related to rare minerals, animal and plant species, and local culture. You will get to experience the principles of linguistic immersion, Congolese style, as we explore this country of a thousand wonders.

With a plethora of natural beauty, we will also explore their volcanic islands and stunning national parks. As well as smaller peripheral islands such as Les Saintes, La Désirade, Marie Galante. 

Learn how their unique Creole culture is showcased in food, language, and art, and hear firsthand what it is like to live on this breathtaking island.
